LONDON KY—The London Fire Department (LFD) has announced the promotion of Firefighter David King to Lieutenant. King served the City as a Volunteer Firefighter since 1994, worked part-time for the department in 2020, and was hired full-time in 2021.
“As a fellow firefighter who worked with King since ‘94, I’ve always known him to go above and beyond to do what is best in the interest of the Department. His vision and leadership abilities will move our Department forward in the years to come,” London Fire Chief Carl Hacker said.
King began his firefighting career in London and stated that it’s where he wants to be when he retires. He previously worked at Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County from 1998 to 2020. King is a Kentucky Fire Instructor, EMS Instructor, American Heart Association CPR/BLS Instructor, and has an Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) License. His certifications include the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Firefighter 1 and 2 (150 hours and 400 hours).
Chief Hacker stated that King’s 22 years of leadership experience within his career is a benefit to the LFD. King is the Department’s Head Training Coordinator, CPR/First Aid Training Coordinator, spearheading the London Fire Honor Guard, and Lead Instructor for the London Fire Club within the local public schools.
“It’s an honor to be able to move forward with the progression of the City and I appreciate the leadership opportunity Chief Hacker’s given me. I look forward to seeing the fire department grow as we look for innovative ways to better serve the citizens of London,” King said.
